Bernice Peed McCants

Funeral services for Bernice Peed McCants, 96, of Butler, will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Bethel Congregational Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Historic Union/Hays Campground Cemetery.  Mrs. McCants passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at her home. 

She was a member of Bethel Congregational Methodist Church where she served as church pianist and organist from 1940 – 1960.  She also led the children’s choir in the 1950’s.  Mrs. McCants worked along side her husband, Franklin, and served as bookkeeper for all of their businesses including McCants Poultry Farm, McCants Tire Co.  and McCants Décor and Fabric.  She served along with her husband on the Mission Board for the Congregational Methodist Church and as treasurer of Taylor County Camp Meeting for decades.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Appling Peed and Ella Brooks Peed; siblings, Jack, Mildred, Albert, and Marvin. 

Survivors include her husband of 75 years, Franklin Ross McCants; three sons, Richie (Lynne Taylor) McCants of Butler, Terry (Minda Douglas) McCants of Butler and Jerald (Terri Burt) McCants of Danielsville, GA; one brother, Lester Peed of Butler; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Taylor County Camp, c/o Connie Wood, PO Box 7955, Macon, GA  31209 or Bethel Congregational Methodist Church, 1516 Thomaston Road, Butler, GA  31006.
