Funeral services for Earl Henry Dunn, Jr. (Sonny), 85, of Butler will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Butler. Burial will follow in Butler Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum.

Sonny passed away on September 24, 2019 at his residence.

Sonny was a fixture in Taylor County for 85 years and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Butler. Among many things, he enjoyed teaching kids the books of the Bible in Vacation Bible School. Sonny owned and operated Sonny’s Sports Shop for 40 years. He took great pride in his yard and he always invited kids to come take pictures for homecoming and for prom or any occasion. Every year he hosted the Sunrise Easter Service when his azaleas were in full bloom. Sonny was well known as Atlanta Braves #1 fan.  In 1974 Sonny was sitting in the stands when Hank Aaron hit his 715-home run breaking the record at the time and in 1992 when Sid Bream made the historic slide to home to win the Championship. Sonny was known for when the preacher said “Amen” he was on his way to Atlanta to see a game.

Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Henry Dunn, Sr. and Adele Ledford Dunn; son, Earl Henry Dunn III (Chuck); two sisters, Kay Dunn Scott and Shirley Neugebauer; grandson, Travis Greyson Dykes.

Survivors include three daughters, Vicki Dunn Walker (Heath) of Butler, Kristi Dunn Barrow of Reynolds, Debi Dunn Bone of Butler; one brother, James Ledford Dunn (Buddy) of Butler; one sister, Phyllis Heath (Harold) of Butler; eight grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
